Description
On the basis of the death inspection protocols, in the middle of the Habsburg ruling center of Vienna, an evidently Protestant portion of the population becomes tangible, which contributes to the maintenance of the same power structure that seeks to prevent its religious development. The Vienna Totenbeschreibamt is an administrative and control instrument used for policey purposes, which makes the recording of Protestant death records appear as a special feature against the background of the monoconfessional Catholic claim to rule. The investigation takes these death records as its subject and subjects the data obtained with them to a comprehensive evaluation. The finding refers to forms of evangelical communalization and makes plausibility of a visibly lived evangelical confessional culture in Vienna up to and including tolerance legislation. He also confirms that the toleration of the evangelicals recorded in the death inspection protocols is ultimately subject to power-political considerations that are above the monoconfessional claim.
