Karnas arv is the third and final stand-alone novel in the trilogy preceded by Dinas bok and Lykkens sønn. Karna is the little motherless daughter of Benjamin. She is a serious and strange child, with a beautiful singing voice. And she has the “falling sickness”. Her epileptic seizures give her a special place in the small community she grows up in. For example, she develops a special relationship with her grandmother Dina, long before Dina returns to Reinsnes from Berlin. The novel is set in a changing northern Norwegian society in the 1870s and 80s. It is also about people's hearts, about choices and betrayal, and about love. Karna witnesses her father's betrayal at an early age, and at a very young age she also receives a heavy inheritance that she cannot bear alone.
