This edition offers the opportunity to get an inside view in three of the most important confraternities of the Lübeck merchant-elite in the Late Middle Ages. As well as a rare glimpse of the activities of an urban petty bourgeois brotherhood. The nearly complete list of all members of the brotherhoods shows on the one hand the network and networking of the urban elites. On the other hand the edition indicate the all embracing precautions of all burghers for the Kingdom come and the time in purgatory. The membership-lists of these confraternities allow a complete view on the development of these institutions, from their foundation up to the reformation.
