Aprašymas
How do we want to live and how can we give our life meaning in the face of the pressing crises of the present? How can such questions be answered at all if a secular culture apparently only allows answers to questions about how? But not about why?. In the present book, Martin Kolmar interprets the current and impending crises, above all the climate crisis, as a crisis of Western ways of thinking and perceiving and tries to find a way out. To this end, he begins with an analysis of Western imaginations from the perspective of the sublime. It turns out that the sublime as a borderline experience opens up surprising and relevant new perspectives on the present and at the same time reveals a path to a secular, rational form of sense experience. What is special about this book is the combination of philosophical and social and cultural research with findings from psychology and neuroscience. It shows that traditional ideas of the good life and the positioning of ones own existence as part of nature correspond with modern research. If you are ready to get involved, the threat posed by the climate crisis in particular is not only a possible disaster scenario and a major technological challenge, but also an opportunity for a better life that results from a different attitude towards it.
