Aprašymas
How about if the story of a monument is told from its point of view? The authors of this anthology dare to change perspective and describe how monuments fared through the ages, torn between original intentions, reinterpretations and instrumentalizations. With profound humor they go into the head of the Statue of Liberty, let the Brooklyn Bridge speak about its reception in literature, or expose the Neue Wache in Berlin as a conservative lateral thinker. Others argue about naked femininity in the Swedish welfare state, or slip into the role of the pedestal suffering from the bust of a Nazi poet. This book aims to encourage further reflection on monuments and monument culture and is therefore also a response to the international interest in monuments that has grown due to recent debates. The texts are based on well-founded discussions of the history, design and meanings of various monuments and convey them critically and at the same time and in an entertaining way. An intellectual experiment that opens up a new perspective on monuments.
